It’s the second full day of my cruise from Siem Reap to Saigon on board the RV Mekong Pandaw and we’re sailing downstream somewhere between Kampong Cham and Phnom Penh.
It’s about an hour before dusk settles on the Cambodian countryside and the sinking sun is dropping a silver hue on the thunderclouds hugging the horizon and the swirling river below, with the water level high and the current strong after heavy rains further north continue to swell this mighty waterway.
It’s been a busy afternoon — we wandered around Angkor Tom, just one of the rural villages flanking the Mekong, to learn more about life in this part of the world — but late afternoon brings time to sit and watch the colours change with sunset.
