NEW DIGS FOR MALDIVES LUXE
Three islands in the South Male Atoll, a 30-minute journey by boat from Male International Airport, is home to the new Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi.
The all-villa resort, which boasts 122 over-water and beachside bungalows, promises guests a choice of specialty dining venues as well as a variety of activities and the services of a personal concierge.

Every one of the private suites defines barefoot luxury and features floor-to-ceiling windows, sliding doors that open to generous outdoor spaces, and easy access to the water for cooling down on warm Maldivian days.
“Each beach, reef and overwater villa opens onto either a white sand beach or an expansive deck and features a private infinity pool with views of the Indian Ocean,” a hotel media release explains.

“Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi offers guests an endless number of remarkable experiences designed for both couples and families alike.
“The calming ambience of the Waldorf Astoria Spa invites guests to indulge in a range of invigorating treatments all from the tranquillity of an overwater or garden villa.

“Nearby sand beaches provide the perfect backdrop for a day spent in the sun, while the 40m Mirror Pool is an ideal place to cool down.”
The hotel has a vast selection of specialty-dining venues, many of which are “brand new concepts developed with the Waldorf Astoria guest in mind”, including Terra located on the island’s highest point offering the chance to dine in private pods crafted from natural bamboo.

“We are delighted to bring the illustrious brand heritage and the world-renowned true Waldorf Service to the Maldives,” says general manager Etienne Dalançon.
“Our brand has redefined the hospitality experience for the modern, luxury traveller in landmark locations around the world and we look forward to transforming the Maldives experience for our guests.”
