THE Akaryn Hotel Group is promising to become free of single-use plastic by 2020 with the brand’s newest address, the akyra TAS Sukhumvit Bangkok, set to lead the charge when it opens in May.
The 50-room address is promising “reimagined urban accommodation in the heart of the city” and will be the first new hotel in Asia to launch without single-use plastic in rooms, restaurants or bars.
“Our eco-friendly approach in Bangkok began by sourcing glass bottles and containers and the hotel will extend the initiative for guests on the go with stylish akyra stainless steel water bottles presented on arrival that can be refilled anytime during their stay,” explains Akaryn Hotel Group founder Anchalika Kijkanakorn.
“Consumers are now more and more frequently seeking out responsible businesses that take care of our planet and we are proud to have been such a company since we first began operating some 15 years ago.”
Drinking water is self-service containers will be available on every floor for easy refills and guests can also take their bottles with them when exploring the city.
Bathroom amenities will be presented in locally manufactured pottery containers filled with products made from essential oils, biodegradable bin bags will be used in all rooms, and shopping bags will be available to encourage guests to refuse plastic when indulging in some Bangkok retail therapy.
Each of the 50 guestrooms boasts floor-to-ceiling windows framing the urban landscape, with glass doors that open onto private balconies, and the interior design blends “natural woods with accents of modern-retro chic displayed in everything from the furnishings to the artwork”.
The akyra TAS Sukhumvit Bangkok is located on Sukhumvit Soi 20, a buzzing corner of the Thai capital known for high-end retail and fine-dining eateries, and will welcome its first guests on May 12.
