What …
… a pride of young lions on the prowl.
Night falls on Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve and our tracker Heavyness and field guide IP find a pride of lions wandering along a track in search of a feed.
They tell us it’s a pride of young cousins and siblings, six males and a single female, who have recently left their parents and are looking for a kill as they become skinny and weak without food.
We follow the inexperienced lions for an hour or so as they stalk a herd of buffalo and after trying but failing to take an old man they resume tracking the animals in the hope they can separate a younger and weaker animal from the herd.
We leave them as they settle in to wait until the water buffalo forget they are in the region and head back to the lodge for dinner under the starts.
