DC FINDS ITS MOXY

CONSERVATIVE Washington DC just got a big dose of cool with the opening of the brand-spanking new Moxy property.

The Moxy DC occupies an historic building on K Street that dates back to the 1870s and celebrates industrial style — the media release announcing the opening says it’s “where style meets function” — with polished concrete floors, exposed columns and open ceilings.

The Moxy brand, which comes under the Marriott International umbrella, makes the most of the fact travellers are spending extra time in common areas and guests are invited to “hang at their own pace in the lobby” at this innovative address.

The communal spaces feature plugs for personal devices, a library zone to enjoy a quiet read, the Moxy Digital Guestbook for streaming videos and pictures via Instagram, and even games.

Arriving guests walk up to the bar, rather than the traditional check-in counter, and are presented a complimentary cocktail with their room key.

The 200 guest suites are “smart and flexible” boasting keyless entry, motion sensor lighting, internet TV, abundant power and USB outlets, and fast and free wifi for reliable connectivity.

“We’re thrilled to open Moxy in the heart of downtown DC as a fun (and) spirited hotel with a bold approach to hospitality,” says Moxy DC “captain” Mark Namdar.

“Our doors are open to the young, the young at heart, and those who seek adventure with Moxy doing things differently from our music to art to cocktails and everything in between.”
